Cabinet of Curiosities, 48"x48"
Cabinet of Curiosities is a piece created for John Howard's office in Colborne Lodge as part of the Folk Tails exhibition. Inspired by Howard’s dual roles as an architect and naturalist, this artwork celebrates nature’s builders—creatures found in High Park that mirror his own craftsmanship.
The piece features a beaver, groundhog, squirrel, rabbit, spider, bee, and bird, each intricately illustrated to highlight their unique contributions to the natural world. Set within the imagined framework of a traditional cabinet of curiosities, the artwork weaves together these animals as symbols of ingenuity, resilience, and connection to the landscape that John Howard helped preserve. This piece honours both his architectural legacy and the thriving ecosystem he worked to protect.
